Dan Tranh
The Tranh Zither also called Dan Thap Luc, is plucked string instrument of the Vietnamese people. It has not neck and the body is resonator. The Tranh Zither includes many strings tied along with the body and spread over its surface. Toward the middle of the sound board there are bridges made of wood or bone that can be moved to vary the tension of the strings. The timbre of Tranh Zither is quite clear and lissome.
In addition to executing melody, the pitch of the Tranh zither is about three octaves with characterized glissando technique in all strings which is called “Ngon A”. It is used to accompany poetry recitals and is important part of Tai Tu, Reformed theatre, traditional operetta, synthetic traditional orchestras, etc.
